If your child should become ill at school, you will be contacted to come and take him/her home.  It is important that you notify the school when you have a change of address or telephone number (at home or business) and if there is a change in the name or telephone number of the person to be contacted if you are not available.  All persons allowed to pick your child up from school should be listed on your emergency card.  Persons not on the emergency card must have a signed and dated note from a legal guardian.  Students will not be allowed to go with persons not properly identified.  Any non-custodial parent not recognized by staff may be asked to show a driver’s license as proof of identification.  Keep your child home if he/she is not feeling well or has a temperature.  Notify the school office attendance line (810-676-1366) by 9:00 a.m.  This request is to insure us of the safe whereabouts of your child.

The State of Michigan requires all children between the ages of 6 and 16 to be in school; therefore, records will be kept of all absences.  After five, ten, and fifteen absences, a letter from the principal will be sent to parents.  The St. Clair County Truancy Officer will be contacted when a student has excessive absences or a pattern of poor attendance.

If your child needs medication administered during school hours you may access the ‘Request to Administer Medication’ form at http://www.eastchinaschools.org/.  Click on ‘Parent Resources’, then ‘Forms’, then ‘Enrollment’.  You and your doctor will need to complete the form and return it to the school office along with the prescribed medication in the original container appropriately labeled by the pharmacy.  Transporting medication to and from school has to be done by the parent, or an adult approved by the parent.  Parents are encouraged to give medication before or after school hours, however, parents are welcome to come to the school and administer medication to their child.  Students may not self-medicate or use over-the-counter medications including cough drops, cough syrup, and aspirin.  All medication will be kept in the office.

Parking Lot Safety

Please drive slowly and follow the arrows in the parking lot. All drivers need to slow down and watch for students at all times. Please do not park past the handicapped spaces. This area is designated for staff so the flow of the traffic is good for parents who are dropping off students. Thank you for helping to keep Belle River students safe!

Shoe Safety

Please make sure that your child’s shoes are appropriate for playground use. Open toed sandals, backless shoes, platform or high heeled shoes are not appropriate for the playground and can cause serious injuries while a child is on the playground equipment. Also, socks must be worn with all shoes. This will help to prevent the woodchips from leaving a sliver in a child’s foot or toe.
