M-Step Results

Dear Parent(s),

The results of your child's performance on last spring's M-STEP, Michigan's statewide assessment are coming home with your child this week.

The M-STEP assessment that your child took last year was more challenging than the assessment they took the previous year. The assessment your child took in the spring of 2016 contained computer adaptive questions, which means that the better they did the harder the questions became or vice versa.

If the scores on your student's report is not what you  are used to have previously seen, please understand that the first time any of us do anything new it sets a baseline for improvement. I'm confident that as your student has more exposure to the new State standards, practice with them and we all get used to taking adaptive assessments online, results will improve.

Please trust that now that we have the results, East China administrators and teachers will be working together to identify areas in which we can improve so that over time, each student or graduate will be better prepared to succeed in the next grade level and after high school, in college or post-secondary training, a career, and life. We take this idea of post-secondary success very seriously as evidenced by our position in the county as a leader in the percentage of graduates attending two- and four-year colleges and training programs.

But, as you are probably aware, competition for those post-secondary opportunities are becoming more competitive every year. To that end, we welcome Michigan's commitment to higher standards and more rigorous tests that prepare our students to not just compete for opportunities but secure them.

Thank you for allowing the East China School District to be a part of your child's education.
